It's officially less than 100 days to Christmas and as the nights get darker and visibility on Britain's roads gets worse, bikers become harder to spot. So with the run-up to winter underway, Swinton Bike Insurance is urging bikers to prepare and purchase reflective jackets early.
The warning comes as a result of an online survey of 1200 motorbike insurance customers completed by Swinton Bikes, which revealed that one in three motorcyclists wait until November before wearing reflective attire, putting themselves and other motorists at risk.
The survey also revealed that when it comes to reflective gear, motorcyclists have suddenly become fashion conscious, and are shunning reflective vests for more trendy alternatives, with 72% of motorcyclists stating they wouldn't wear a vest but would rather opt for an arm band or sash and 56% claiming they would rather have a reflective sticker on their bike rather than body.
Swinton Bike Insurance would like to remind motorcyclists across the country that with nights getting darker earlier, coupled with the severe weather warnings, visibility this autumn will be low, and by just wearing a reflective jacket the risk of an accident is decreased dramatically.
Anthony Aronin, head of Swinton Bikes, said: "High visibility clothing is an essential item in any motorcyclist's kit and we urge our customers to prepare for winter as early as possible. Making sure you are seen on the road will reduce the chance of an accident and subsequently reduce any insurance premium."
